September 3, 2010 - Joseph Gordon-Levitt And Scarlett Johansson To Go Undead In Diablo Cody’s Zombie Love Story?

What would you say if we were to tell you that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are looking to star in a Diablo Cody-produced zombie romantic comedy with some marked political undertones? Hopefully your response, like ours, is somewhere along the lines of “That’s the best news I’ve heard all day!”

/Film is reporting that the flick—which Joe and ScarJo are loosely attached to right now—is something along the lines of “Shaun of the Dead” meets “District 9″ meets “Wristcutters: A Love Story” meets “Fight Club.” In actuality, the film will most likely be called “Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament.”

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Meet Andy Warner, a recently deceased everyman and newly minted zombie. Resented by his parents, abandoned by his friends, and reviled by a society that no longer considers him human, Andy is having a bit of trouble adjusting to his new existence. But all that changes when he goes to an Undead Anonymous meeting and finds kindred souls in Rita, an impossibly sexy recent suicide with a taste for the formaldehyde in cosmetic products, and Jerry, a twenty-one-year-old car crash victim with an exposed brain and a penchant for Renaissance pornography. When the group meets a rogue zombie who teaches them the joys of human flesh, things start to get messy, and Andy embarks on a journey of self-discovery that will take him from his casket, to the SPCA, to a media-driven class-action lawsuit on behalf of the rights of zombies everywhere.

The script comes from “Going The Distance’s” Geoff Latulippe, which unto itself promises some smart, witty writing, but the premise alone is enough to get us hooked. We love this new side of zombies as just being another element of society, because it reminds us so much of what “True Blood” did with vampires. “Breathers” seems much more tongue-in-cheek than “True Blood” is, but the idea of a new, relatable side to zombies sounds like one of the most fun and unique concepts we’ve heard of in a while.

July 23, 2010 - Scarlett Johansson is Gravitating Toward Robert Downey Jr

Scarlett Johansson may in fact be teaming up with her Iron Man 2 co-star, Robert Downey Jr, for a new sci-fi thriller. Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity was said to be starting Robert Downey Jr and Angelina Jolie, but Angie has had to back out of the filming and Scarlett is taking her place. The film is set in space and follows the journey of two astronauts (Downey & Johansson) trying to make it back home to Earth after debris from a Russian satellite destroyed their ship, with coworkers still inside.

Supposedly Warner Brothers will be doing this in 3D and it is said to be similar in filming to Avatar, James Cameron’s huge undertaking. The budget will be GIGANTIC I’m sure. Robert and Scarlett will be practically the ONLY cast members (good thing I love them both) and they’ll need to be weightless the majority of the time.

Sounds a little like Cast Away meets Apollo 13, but with more eye candy.

June 22, 2010 - BWW Exclusive: Tony-Winner Scarlett Johansson Talks Hollywood to Broadway & More

Tonight, I had the exceptional privilege of conducting an InDepth InterView with 2010 Tony-winning Best Featured Actress In A Play: the luminous and winsomely witty Scarlett Johansson. The interview was scheduled for only 15 minutes, but the passionate and free-talking Johansson graciously extended our talk to 45 minutes. We talked about her work in the theatre on this year’s highly-praised revival of Arthur Miller’s A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, as well as her feelings on musicals, Sondheim, and growing up in New York, which then veered off into a considerable discussion of her film work and working with actors like Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr. and Penelope Cruz, as well as directors like Woody Allen, Brian DePalma and Christopher Nolan. In this sample portion of the forthcoming interview, in addition to speaking eloquently about the acclaimed revival and winning the Tony, Ms. Johansson was also gracious enough to address the “Give The Tonys Back To Broadway” Facebook campaign controversy and her response is reflected here, as well as in the e-mail follow-up and further explanation I received from her just moments ago. The complete interview will be available next week, here is a small sampling to whet your palette. Enjoy!

June 13, 2010 - Scarlett Johansson and Eddie Redmayne win first two acting Tony Awards

Both Scarlett Johansson and Eddie Redmayne won Tony Awards for their Broadway debuts. The four-time Golden Globe nominated actress featured in this season’s acclaimed revival of “A View From the Bridge.” She wowed the tough New York theater crowd as the lovesick teenager in this third rialto remounting of the Arthur Miller classic. Tony Award winner Liev Schreiber (“Glengarry Glen Ross”) is contending tonight for his performance as her lustful Uncle Eddie. Among those Johansson edged out in this race was stage vet Jessica Hecht as Eddie’s long-suffering wife, Beatrice.

June 7, 2010 - Exclusive: Sandra Bullock Tells Us: “Scarlett Is a Great Kisser”

Sandra Bullock is kissing and telling about her surprise smooch with Scarlett Johansson at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday.

“Ryan is right — Scarlett is a great kisser,” she tells UsMagazine.com exclusively.

Johansson, 25, filled in for husband Ryan Reynolds (who costarred with Bullock in last summer’s The Proposal and couldn’t attend the show) to present Bullock, 45, with the Generation Award — along with Bradley Cooper and Betty White.

Bullock and Reynolds were up for Best Kiss.

“I thought you should have won…it was a great kiss,” Johansson told her.

They then slowly worked their way towards each other and locked lips as the crowed cheered.

During her acceptance speech, Bullock also took time out to tell the audience that she loves acting and has no plans to quit. “No matter what you might have seen or heard or read lately, I love what I do. And I’m not going anywhere,” she said.

May 10, 2010 - ‘Iron Man 2′ blasts past original with $133.6M

Tony Stark piloted to the top of the box office but not the record books.

“Iron Man 2,” the sequel starring Robert Downey Jr. as Marvel’s gadget-happy billionaire superhero, earned $133.6 million domestically on its opening weekend, according to distributor Paramount Pictures’ estimates Sunday. The opening rocketed past the original $98.6 million debut in 2008 and landed the record as the fifth-biggest opening weekend.

“We’re thrilled with the combination of the way it’s playing across the board,” said Don Harris, Paramount’s vice president of distribution. “It’s playing as a fanboy movie, but it’s also playing as family movie, too. I even know a bunch of people who are planning to take their mothers to see ‘Iron Man 2′ on Mother’s Day, which really made me chuckle.”

“Iron Man 2″ has taken in $194 million overseas since it debuted in many international markets last week, bringing its worldwide total to over $327 million. While Hollywood blockbusters typically open around the same date in most countries, some get an overseas jump of a week or more on their U.S. debuts. The biggest opening came from China with $7.3 million.

“It’s a perfect kickoff to the summer of 2010,” said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. “It literally sets the tone for the entire summer movie season. To have the fifth biggest opening week of all time certainly sends a message that this summer season is going to make its mark. Audiences really do get caught up in that.”

The victory of “Iron Man 2,” which is only available in 2-D, comes at time when 3-D films like “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland” have recently dominated the box office. IMAX chairman and president Greg Foster said the $10.2 million earned by “Iron Man 2″ from IMAX theaters set IMAX’s 2-D record, beating out the $8.5 million debut of “Star Trek” last year.

May 2, 2010 - ‘Nightmare,’ ‘Iron Man’ lead US, overseas bills

Paramount’s “Iron Man 2″ got an international head start on its domestic debut this Friday, pulling in $100.2 million in 53 foreign markets. While Hollywood blockbusters typically open around the same date in most countries, some get an overseas jump of a week or more on their U.S. debuts.

“Iron Man 2″ brought in $12.2 million in Great Britain, $10.8 million in South Korea, $8.8 million in Australia and $8.2 million in France. According to Paramount, the sequel had bigger openings than 2008′s “Iron Man” in every market.

“Iron Man 2″ continues the story of Downey’s billionaire superhero, a genius who builds himself a metal suit loaded with gadgets. Mickey Rourke co-stars as a new enemy with his own high-tech arsenal.

April 28, 2010 - Scarlett on People’s Most Beautiful List!

Dubbed a “bombshell” when she was just a teen, Johansson, 25, has two must-have beauty staples: “Red lipstick and sandwiches.” That’s not surprising to her Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau, who says that “when you’re hanging out with her on the set, she’s just like one of the guys.” Source

April 21, 2010 - Scarlett on In Style Magazine

With her gorgeous blond hair, feminine curves and sexy voice, one might expect Scarlett Johansson to be the perfect ringleader for the young Hollywood scene, but the truth is she’s a homebody (and homemaker!). “You’re not going to find me at 4 a.m. hitting up the club, bottle full of bub…Maybe on a rare occasion. But I’ve just never been much of a clubby, nightlife kind of person,” she tells InStyle. “I’m not a social butterfly. I’ve never been part of a scandal that was really juicy.” She’d much prefer to snuggle up on the couch with hubby Ryan Reynolds after trying her hand at cooking a hearty turkey Bolognese (yum!). For more of our exclusive interview with Scarlett, pick up the May issue of InStyle, on newsstands this Friday!
